WINE ROAD

ROUTE OF INTENSIVE DIFFICULTY SEMI-MOUNTAINOUS Circular hiking or cycling route for mountain bike, with a total length of 19.35 km in hilly area with maximum elevation 220 m. The route is designed for those who love greenery and nature, is half asphalt, ideal for brisk walking and mountain biking. The first part of route with a length of 2,60 km, paved throughout its length, begins from PORTO CARRAS SITHONIA 5*, follows for 1,45km the sideways or bicycle paths of the Resort’s main road, alongside PORTO CARRAS MELITON 5*, passes from the ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES and the GOLF COURSE and heads to the MAIN GATE, at an altitude of 20m. Then, turning right and heading south, the route passes through the pine trees for 1,15km, ending up to the WINERY (in an altitude of 74m. with tilts reaching up to 11%). The second part of the route, with a length of 4,25km, is the most challenging, ascending constantly until you reach an altitude of 216m. The route continues around the Winery on an uphill asphalt road for 0,85km - with a slope that in places reaches 11% - within an area of pine, reaching an altitude of 110 m. Then by turning right and running-up to intense uphill dirt road with a slope of 12% for another 0.40 miles, the hiker / biker reaches the point FURNACES with an altitude of 170 meters and panoramic views of the Resort, and the Neos Marmaras bay. Continuing for another 0.70 miles on the same dirt road, the trail descends a slope to reach 7%, next to the National Highway, at an altitude of 140 m. Avoiding the National Highway, the route turns left into a dirt road, which climbs to 0.65 km at an altitude of 210 meters, with slopes on small sections reaching 15%. Finally, heading on a rather flat section of the dirt road through wooded areas and vineyards - of a total length of 1,65km - the hiker / cyclist reaches the end of the second section on an area called PANORAMA at an altitude of 220m and panoramic views of South Kassandra and Toronaios Bay. The third part of the route with a length of 4,90km is a very steep track to dirt roads, leading to the coastal zone of the Resort. The route continues along a dirt road through pine land and vineyards for 2,05km and descends to the entrance of the WINERY on the National Highway at an altitude of 141m., with slopes not exceeding 10%. Then, crossing the National Highway and following the dirt road across, the route descends for 2,85km through vineyards and olive trees until the CAPE, at an altitude of 23m. The fourth section of the route of a length of 4,30km is split in two parts. The first part of 3,40km is uphill on asphalt, with a maximum gradient of 7% and passing through pine area, ends at ALMOND TREES at an altitude of 82 m. The second part of 0,90km on a dirt road is extremely sloping, with tilts that at some points reach 11%, ending at COTTAGES area, at an altitude of 23m. The fifth and last section, with a length of 3,30km, continues along the coast passing through three natural coves called LIMANAKIA, the KOHI beach and KOHI KOHI CLUB, heading to the MARINA, the KIDS FUN PARK, the COMMERCIAL ZONE, and the Conference Centre OLYMPIC HALL and, from the main road of the Resort, ends at the starting line of PORTO CARRAS SITHONIA 5*. This section is rather even and the slopes do not exceed 6% for small sections of the route. |
